Increased cellular respiration is going to mean increased carbon dioxide production. Increased CO2 production results in a decrease in blood pH (more acidic). pH sensors detect this and use a variety of mechanisms to combat the effect (homeostasis). One example is an increase in breathing rate to "blow off" the excess CO2.
