I work for a bank and they send people in to shop us to see if we are doing what they want. But, now they have starting sending in people that are wearing wires and tapeing our conversations with the new client without letting us know. I only found out after it was discussed in a meeting today. I did what I was suppose to but I still don't think this is legal.

Any taped conversation without consent is illegal. However, whatever message you leave on someones voice mail is considered a legal recording and could be admitted in a court of law - should it be needed. A good example would be a threat...which some people often do. A good rule to follow: Don't say anything you wouldn't write and sign!

Only if the employer is part of the conversation OR if you are acting as an agent for the employer in the conversations that are taped. They can not tape your personal conversations IF you are not on duty.

Assume you are being taped the second you walk out your door and all will be fine. People have the right to record anything now a days due to the laws requiring major proof if something goes wrong. We just have to accept it, but it only came about due to all the criminals out there!

It IS legal. Been there, done that. Company can record all conversations taking place over their lines. Outside callers must be informed, though( "You call may be recorded for quality assurance").

Personal calls or not, it's the company's line.

if you're on their phone. and even the internet at work. they can read your e-mails if they have the service to "spy". seriously. i saw a dateline show about it. yep it can be done. but doubt if they'd invest in the equipment. let's face it, you'd have to be pretty lonely and a major loser to want to listen in.
