Presidio would mean a fortress built by the Spaniards to protect themselves from pirate attacks. It could also mean some military facility such as the Presidio of San Francisco.

Nowadays Presidio means jail, but in the conquistadores called presidios to the forts they built in what it would become the South West of USA.
