Obviously, I could just open a college book by U.S. & World Report or some other source, but I'd like to hear from people who have actually had interactions with schools.

A few midwestern 4-yr colleges worthy of note:

Ripon College, Ripon, WI
Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA
Luther College, Decorah, IA

I also recommend looking at these college guides because they give the reader an idea of what campus life is like at the colleges described.

MCAD in Minneapolis. I have never been there, but its right next to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, an amazing (and free) museum. Someone told me the person who does the ipod Commercials and ads went there, just to give you an idea of one person who made it big. I have seen other work from students there (I go to an Art Institute in Minneapolis and have seen samples that my instructors have showed me) and its all very good. my friend was also going to go there but its EXPENSIVE.
