I work in guest services at a small hotel. I was just wearing slacks and any nice shirt, now it's a black vest/pants/shoes with a white high collar blouse with a large floppy bow. Is this style back or something?

It's just a hotel look. It's suppost to be classy looking for a hotel. My friend had the same uniform when she worked at a hotel, but they let them ascessorise with their own satin or silk scarf instead of the floppy bow... maybe they'd let you do that.

Talk to your fellow colleagues and see if they feel the same way. In either case you can complain about it to the management either individually or collectively. You can suggest alternatives that would be more comfortable and also more fashionable in your view.

Good employers want to listen to feedback from employees regarding this sort of issue. I have the feeling that your company is pretty much decided on the issue of if to have uniforms at all or not so I guess you can only try to make that uniform something that you like better and think would benefit both you and the company.

My employee opted to go for uniforms lately as well. And they are awful! White shirts that are easily dirtied and pants and skirts that are made for older people. I hated it at first, got really mad about having to wear it. The shirts always look horribly dirty and the pants they gave me were too big and long and have ripped at the bottom. Now at work I look like complete **** instead of dressing in my own professional clothes. But now I don't mind it, it is their fault. Now They have to take responsibility for my clothes. And if I look like ****, it's because of their bad choice. Two bosses have already made noise about going back the way it was...so just go with the flow for now...and have a good laugh about it later.

Uniforms help give the place an aura of legitimacy.
Plus guests feel easier asking someone in uniform a question if your not at the desk.

Hotels are a unique place, it is pretty personal where you sleep, but you have to have strangers around... So the uniform helps add a layer of professional distance.

I've been wearing one uniform or another for the biggest part of 30 years. Saves me $$$ on clothes, and I never have to wonder about what to wear.

NO WAY!!! The vest is back, but the rest is just plain TACKY!!! I think your boss just came out of a time machine. I don`t know what thier problem, but they DEFINATLY have a fashion 4-1-1!

that's a standard uniform for a hotel guest services employee, at least you don't have to wear the blazer with it

I say that quit the job if you don't like the uniform...I mean there are so many good opportunities out there...and jobs that you can actually be totally comfortable in...try for a few days...if you don't like it then quit....and find another one...That's what I would do...

They may be trying to look more upscale. Uniforms effect how people perceive a company.

she/he probably wants you and every body else to look professional. you work at a small hotel, that probably get a little less business than the Marriot, or Hilton.
