I'm just carrying on through this boring sh1t always waiting and looking forward to better days that are always just round the corner.but they never seem to arrive. I'm constantly thinking that once I've finished this thing or that thing...then things will be great but when i look at it realistically...it's always been like this! There's got to be some point to all this striving... How can you live for the now rather than ....for the tomorrow that never comes?I'm 36 ...is this something to do with my age maybe?

It could be mid life crises. Sad but true. Your 36 and the chances of you living to 72 is 50/50. You're at mid life

Yes unfortunately I have had bouts with this feeling your talking about ,off an on for a couple of years an I'm 45 and yes I think it has something to do with hormones an age ,kinda like mid life change ,doctors tried to put me on anti depressants but I refused because when I did take them it caused me to have no feelings at all not even a bored feeling ,it was like living inside a statue ,but hey I started exercising 3 months ago ,three days a week an then I walk every day just a mile enough to bring up my chemical makeup an it is the best thing I have ever done for myself ,I actually stay energetic an more leveled out ,get out an do something for yourself but don't stay at home all the time because it will become worst ,cover yourself with great friends an family. Enjoy every moment because we are not guaranteed tomorrow ! God Bless You

This will make me sound like one of those evangelical wonders who can't wipe the smiles from their faces. Trust me, I'm not - far from it! But, the most true thing I ever heard is this: happiness is not a destination, it's a way of travelling. This sounds like more crap but it's also true: every day is a gift. If you could only look at things differently, although they wouldn't have changed at all, their effect on you would be totally different. The only thing you really own is this second. The past has gone, the future will always be there, in the future, so what you have is now. Don't waste it on meanderings - get a book about positive thinking and learn to live in the present. Good luck!

Hello, I'm glad to be able to answer this.

1. Sucess is not a destination, it is a process: Satisfaction comes in being able to make other people happy: more like working for the general good.

I have felt this way even at a younger age (18). I approached someone and they let me know that the reason I feltthis way was that there was a definite purpose, activity, responsibility and location that I was to attain. The failure to achieve this would resultin great dissatisfaction.

I asked how to know this definite purpose, activity, responsibility and location: they said that I should be focused and consistent in developing those things that come to me naturally.

I tried it!
I went through a process of missionary work in a village. It was a draining, stretching and yet fulfilling demand . Most of my friends who knew me thought I was paid, but it was purely voluntary.

2 years later i become a Pastor; and through that process I metsomeone who felt that my skills could be useful for the development of humanity.

I finally retrain as a journalist and throw myself into mastering all media tools so that I can effectively reach out to more people in a short time with the message burning in my heart.

In the process I get to meet more people and travel to more places without spending a dime.

I'm still 29

Now

It's the process, not the destination. Find your purpose and stick to it in spite of peer pressure and circumstances and then you jbegin to feel that satisfaction- like you just had a mega burger - and you sleep heartilky with a smile on your face.

The fact you are always striving to make a difference is good. Some people believe the only way they feel they have made a difference is if the results are immediate, dramatic, and if they receive public recognition. That's not always the case...
Sometimes the greatest impact a person can have is when performing daily seemingly insignificant acts.

Consider the character, George Bailey in the classic, "It's a Wonderful Life"...he had dreams of making a difference in the world and 'lasso the moon'. He realize that he made not have 'lasso the moon' but learned through performing daily seemingly insignificant acts, he can make a difference in the world...even a life and death one.

"Make a Difference" Day is Oct. 28.
Celebrate it and reflect how one act can make difference through daily activities/routine.

Perhaps you should stop looking to the future for better days, and focus on the right here, right now. If you keep searching for something better, you miss what's right in front of you. There's got to be something about your everyday life that is exciting. If not, look for some sort of hobby you can start that can bring you joy. If you have kids, spend more time with them. If you search for happiness, you'll never find it. Happiness comes from within, and it is always right there for your choosing. It is your choice to be happy. Make that choice. Many happy days to you.

Boy, the problem is simple. Do not stop dreaming. do not stop to plan ahead. The day you stop planning ahead or dreaming, you die before your death.

But as you plan ahead and dream, count your achievements. The way you count your achievement is by looking yourself aginst a reference. Of the peers you know, how many are below you in achieving from the last reference point in time?

Planning ahead is measuring yourself against those ahead. Dreaming is living in some other people's world, who are generally ahead. To take stock is to look either sideways or downwards. If you are at level 3, look down level 2 to take stock and look up level 4 to plan. Never look up to measure your success. This is what you have been doing. You are not counting your achievements. You are only counting your chickens before they are hatched.

Take a minute, look downwards. You will be amazed.

You have to find someone or something that makes each day worth it.

I'm still in high school, and my most regular self-asked questions are "Is/was it worth it?" and "Will tomorrow be the same?". But this year we got a new chemistry teacher and I have her fifth period out of eight periods. No matter how bad my 1st through 4th periods seem to be, everything my chemistry teacher says makes me want to live. After chemistry I eat lunch with her. It's crazy that someone nearly 15 years older than me, who I've just met, can make me want to live for tomorrow, but she does.

Just keep searching. Eventually things will look up.

I've been there, my friend. It's the human condition, but it's particularly bad for men in their late 30s and early 40s. I'm 43 now, and I've come out of the other side. Just take each day as it comes, but that's a cliche.

You're still a young man, relatively speaking. You are at the beginning of your best years - believe me, confidence increases - I've had terrible knock-backs, but I've come through stronger and more confident.

"That which does not kill me can only make me stronger."

Good luck!

What exactly do you want these better days to be like? Are you feeling a yearning for something in particular or just dissatisfaction with life now? Start removing the crap that is inhibiting your happiness.
