I don't care for it because, in my opinion, it isn't singing...it's talking, therefore it's not music anymore than listening to a speech is music.

I don't think racism has anything to do with it, in most cases. It's just a matter of taste. I prefer a perfect mixture of several different instruments blending together to make incredible sounding music blends of music- stuff like Dave Matthews Band or Dispatch, Coldplay, etc. I don't really like the predictable repetition of rap, but every now and then I'll stumble across some rap with good instrumental blends or incredible lyrics- like Black Eyes Peas "Where is the Love?" It's all a matter of taste. Why do some people hate country? Why do some people hate polka? Why do some people hate jazz? It's all about personal taste.

I believe it all depends on where that person grew up and what kind of influences they had. If they were influenced by "white people music" then rap would be something that they wouldn't like automatically.
In the case of Eminem and people like John Cena and even Kevin Federline, they're showing that "white" people can rap.
Some people hate rap because of some of the images portrayed in the songs.. degrading women etc. however the language is enough to turn some people off. When people talk about beating up other people and killing other people, some actually take it literally and follow in the rapper's "footsteps" even though that rapper probably hasn't killed anyone.
Parents especially love to blame hip-hop and rap for the violent behavior of their child, when it's actually their fault, because they aren't keeping the proper eye on their kid and so their kid is influenced wrongly and takes things literally, like I mentioned previously.
What the public fails to understand is that this is how these people grew up, when they're telling you about their life story they aren't going to minimise the effects of it by simply color coding it to be able to be played on air, they're gonna tell you straight up how it is.
And yes racism is also a major part in the problem of people not liking rap, it's like I mentioned earlier, Eminem and Kevin and Cena are all classed as "white" people simply because of their skin. Yet they are defying all previous sayings that "white" people can't rap, because they haven't experienced the "ghetto" or they don't come from the "hood".
Both adults and children will have a distinct "hatred" if you want, for lack of a better word, towards rap, because it's beinging produced and recorded mainly by black artists.
There's never going to be a time without racism and I think that the most the people who face racism can do, is try and go on with their lives. It's hard but they've got to do it.
However, don't take what I say as meaning that all "white" people are like this; some like/love rap.
And I'm "white", if only by skin color, because all of my friends say that I'm the female version of Eminem *lol* or an uh-oh oreo (white on the outside, black on the inside), but what I'm saying is that I love rap, I love hip-hop, I'm a very versatile person and I pretty much like anything.
Hope I helped somewhat. These are basically my views on the topic.. but it differs from person to person.

Certainly some people will hate rap because of racism. Some will hate it because it sounds like a huge percussion session with no melody to them. Some won't listen to the words after they hear their first rap song, will assume they are all the same (duh), and hate them all. Some are just stuck in a rut and can't accept anything new, kinda like the older generation when the Beatles arrived in 1964. Some just won't like the way the rappers dress; of course, they haven't been to high school in a while.
Individuality is one of the most appealing things about music. Do we really care why some people hate rap?

I don't know if racism is behind why people don't like rap, however, I am sure that is true in limited cases. I know some black people who don't like rap, so being black doesn't automatically make you like rap...it's more a matter of personal taste. Some people don't like the language, some don't like the "loudness" of it, some don't like the message and/or culture (drugs/violence/demeaning women) associated with it.
Personally, I love rap...always have, always will. I joke with my friends that when I am an old lady in the nursing home, I'm going to get in trouble for the loud bass coming out of my room...lol. I actually got my 58 yr. old mom listening to rap and she loves it (only the clean versions though)...she loves the bass!! It's hilarious when she cranks it up loud when she is driving.
Good question. :o)

I don't think racism has anything to do with why people hate rap. I don't like rap but love a lot of people singing like: Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Temptations. My style of music is the 60's oldies. It is good that people have different likes of music===it makes the world a better place to have different kinds.

Okay, I do like some rap, but not very much. It's not the racism because I treat everyone equally and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with African-Americans, Asians, Mexicans... u name it. I am caucasian/white and I love everyone. Okay, I don't like rap because I just don't like the fact that a lot of it talks about sex, drugs, and killing people... not all of it. But a lot of it does, and I don't like the beat to it whatsoever, probably because I'm a rock fan and love hard rock. Another reason is because they don't really sing, it's like they're talking throughout the whole song, but with the artists I do like... like Kanye West, I just see it as poetry... it's really hard to explain, everyone has their own taste of music and I prefer Rock, Country, Pop/R&B... etc. So, it has nothing to do with racism because I am against racism.

well i hate rap (most of it) because all it talks about is shooting someone or drugs or sex. Some rap is good though, like 2 pac - changes. Racism has nothing to do with it for me but for some people that is the only reason.

I have been in the music biz and a music collector for over thirty years. I enjoy a wide variety of music, from the blues to jazz to rock and roll and country rock. I have always appreciated musical talent, and I'm sorry to say it doesn't take much talent to recite a rhyme to a recorded beat while trying to hold your pants up, grab your crotch, and show off your oversized jewelry. I can't tell the difference between a rap song recorded in the earlier years and one done now. Same beat, same lyrical content, same look! The super macho, tough guy, thug, woman dominater act has gotten old. Move on to real music with real musicians and singers! Racism has nothing to do with it. Talent does!

No racism has nothing to do with it. I can speak for everyone else but I hate rap because I think that rappers are fake. They try to act tough and cool. Plus rap music has a lot of pop in.

Some people hate rap because they think it's disrespectful, and teaching you bad things. I love rap, that what I listen 2 most of the time, and I'm not a bad person.
