Today I was parked in front of a 7-11. I went inside to get some cash. As I was coming out, I saw this big chick carrying this kid get out of a car, back door on my side. I thought, "surely not", but as I got there, sure enough, there was a large scratch on my pickup right where her door opened. As I rubbed it off to see if it would just pretty much smooth over, instead I realized that the deep scratch was also a small dent! She had carelessly gotten out of the car, and whacked her door against my pickup. Why can't people be a little more careful?

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments. I know it's not a life or death thing, but it just irks me.
And 'mel'....if some day you ever have to work for a living, and actually pay something off, or have to even make payments on it, and work hard...maybe some day you will understand that a person doesn't have to care about something a whole lot to care about it's worth. A car or house or even bicycle is worth something, to the person who paid money and worked hard for that money. I suppose you live in a monestary and own not a stitch of clothing that you care about.

It may not be life or death but that doesn't mean you don't have a right to be angry! If something like that happened to them, they'd be angry as well.

But as for your question...people are in just too much of a hurry and think that where they have to get to is more important than anyone else's destination. It stinks! People need to follow that old adage, treat others how you would like to be treated.

Because some people don't respect other people's property.
I get almost homicidal when I see such things.

I also think parking lots are to blame because the
parking spaces aren't designed wide enough. They
should be designed so that both doors can open
all the way without affecting the car next to you.

But of course we both know that will never happen.

I am sorry to hear about the ding in your truck. Dings
especially make a car look old.

Incidentally I remember sitting in my truck once at a Wendy's
eating a burger. A young guy came out from the restaurant
and opened his door into the side of my truck. I got out
furious and gave him a piece of my mind. He kept his
window partially rolled up, and said, "no worries". I should
have kicked the side of his car in. But then I would have went to
jail. No worries, what an infuriating thing for someone to say.

People are naturally self-absorbed and there's really not much you can do to change that. I've learned the best way to avoid getting scratches or dings is to park way out where there aren't many cars. (Sometimes hard in small places like 7-11 though) A longer walk in the parking lot is worth not getting dings and scratches repaired

I agree with you, but here are some realities that often fall under Murphy's Law!
If you have a junker no one will park near it and there will be no scratches
If you have a new car- you can park in the middle of a parking lot, 100 feet from anyone, and someone will park next to you and inadvertently open their door into your car!
If you just washed your car, birds will fly over and your car will be the only one targeted!
Why does it always work this way?

As hard as it is to believe, some people think nothing of doing this. I am always very careful and park so that I have plenty of room to get out of my car. I work hard to keep my car looking nice and I get sooooo angry when someone does this to me. One time, this happened to my dad when he had just bought a new truck. He kicked a HUGE dent in the door of the person's car who did it. I guess that would be considered "parking lot rage".

Why are material things so important?
Did you take it personally? Will you "sue"?
Why do people have to watch out for your car?
If you don't know the risk in caring for a pile of metal and plastic, park way far away from anyone, instead of right in front.

Could this have possibly happened anywhere else?

well are you surprised, she's a big chick like you said. she needs more room. (too bad she's breeding too, ****, another fat kid with no brains). sorry, but honestly it really annoys me too. or the ones who are really attractive and think they can get away with anything type are like that too. I've seen that before. (or the ones who think they're attractive, i mean lets face it, the lindsay lohan type, sort of ugly but skinny and so they think they look good and act like they're the cat's a s s.)

p.s. i'd body slam the heifer if i ever seen her again too. right in front of her kid even, i wouldn't care. just like she didn't care about your property. maybe she'll knock that **** off. no telling how many people have had to pay to get dints and dings out of their vehicles because of that cow. you might be doing your community a service.

A lot of times people are just self absorbed so they don't even realize what they're doing. Either they have other things on their minds or they're in a hurry, etc. It's such a shame that your truck got scratched up, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you got her license plate number and are able to file with your insurance or something. :(

i know what you mean...i have dings all up and down my car. I even saw a man get in his pickup and scratch my mirror. I would have gone to talk to him, but in Texas, guns are everywhere. A man was randomly shot at the other day. didn't even know the man.

I know what you mean, it pisses me off too

I park out in no-where's-ville in the parking lot so i can reduce the chance of somebody parking next to me.
