Arrogant, self serving, boisterous , pompus, self congratulating, self centred, pushy, dictating, conniving.

All pretty much describes the world opinion of the US. Yes you have helped allot of people in some dire situations, but you also cause allot of dire situations. It was the US that armed Iraq while they were fighting Iran, and Bin Ladden while he was fighting the Russians and likely had allot to do with Noriega in Panama before having to take him out.

There is no long term vision in the US, just the short term fix, Hence the Iraq blunder. Now your in the ****, and you won't be out of it soon. More people are dieing under the new Iraq then ever died under sodame insane.

Had you waited for an international consensus on Iraq, You would be shouldering a lot less financial and human responsibility. The UN didn't want to use force because Hussein was pretty much isolated already and wasn't a danger to the world as he was. Bush just had to show the world how tough the US is and how no nonsense you all are. Well now your going it alone and will likely go bankrupt before finishing up there.

I will add that the world opinion is anti Bush more so then anti American. Bush has thumbed his nose at everyone that doesn't agree with him including long term important allies. That is why no one is volunteering to send people to Iraq to help out.

Well perhaps the specific word you are looking for is 'superpower'.

But the more comprehensive answer to your question would be to say that the United States generally chooses/is required to play a role as the 'policeman' of the world, ensuring that rogue countries can't just go ahead and do whatever they want (like invade other countries). This 'policeman' role used to be very noticable (for example when the USA led the defence of Kuwait in the first gulf war).

However today some would say it is the USA that has become the rogue state...

We are apparently no more or less than the worlds bulling police force. For some unknown reason we feel that we have the "right" and/or obligation to shove our beliefs and/or political system on everyone despite THEIR opinions and beliefs. We try to teach our children about the Bill of Rights and yet we fail to acknowledge or respect other countries rights and beliefs. Much less one anothers! We are no better than any other country out there....we are all human.

By treaty, one nation among many others.

By current US policy, the neighberhood bully, or maybe just a vigilante.
