I think they just arrested one of the FBI's 10 most wanted for arranging marriages in the United States. I don't quite understand why, my husband and I arranged our marriage a week before we did it and nobody arrested us!

Arranged marriages in the States? No.
I do think that there is a lot to be said about them. I am not for arranged marriages but the divorce rate in India is much lower that in the States. Why? because its their tradition to have an arrange marriage and they accept that is the way it is, and they commit. Their choice is make the best of it or hate it for the rest of your life. We in western cultures "know better", meaning we know we should have the freedom to choose who we want to spend the rest of our lives with and if it doesnt work out we know we can get a divorce and get out of it.
I think an arranged marriage is not good, but I do admire the commitment people have in cultures with arranged marriages.

I think arranged marriages are the way to go. If you look at the divorce rate of the "marriage for love" crowd, an arranged marriage would have just as much a chance for working and you don't have all the emotional crap that goes with the "love","broken heart",and "poor little me" syndrome. If you end up getting divorced. You can just say "hey, we gave it a shot and it didn't work!" and move on with your life. If it does work out, you can say "hey, this is cool, we made it!" and move on with your life.

I don't believe in them. I feel that if i'm going to spend the rest of my life with them then I want to choose who he is going to be and I want to know everything about him....not let someone else do that for me. No way. I wouldn't marry that person if I was told that I was having an arranged marriage.

im indian..living in the US...and ik for a fact that all the ppl who have gotten an arranged marriage in my lifetime are ALL happy together..and ik that india's divorce rate is VERY low also (arranged marriage is most popular in india)...so, i do believe that it can be a good thing..you dont need love before marriage..all u need is a guy who meets your standards..because love will def come after marriage...trust me...and anyways, ppl today overrate arranged marriages...its not that bad of a thing..its more like a global dating service (as ashwaria said in Bride & Prejudice) ;]

I would hate to have an arranged marrige because one how do you know if the person is bad or not. two people with arranged marrige wouldn't be able to love each other has much if the person was in love with someone else.

It makes me feel like throwing up a little. Marriage is the outcome of love.

I think personally its the worst thing you can ever do, how do you know if u want to spend the rest of your life with some1 u barely know? Mariage is for when your in love and know that u want to be with that person 4eva so i would definately be against it.

I guess it is acceptable to some people and cultures, but there is no way anyone would be picking who i am going to marry. If I want to make mistakes and pick a loser, then it is my right and I will. Knowing my luck if I had let my parents pick my husband they would pick some dork that repulsed me.

I dont think it should happen because 99.9% of the time the people never fall in love with one another you should be able to choose who you marry. SO that you can be in true love.
