I think every CEO needs to do just that. For one year s/he should have to live off the wage and benefits provided to an entry-level worker. No bonuses, no stock options, just what the greeter makes.
Maybe then workers will become people, not just a commodity.
I worked for a company (not Wal-Mart, but similar) and was fairly compensated for my work. I was very happy and productive for 15 yrs. Then the small company was bought out by one of Wal-Mart's competitors. I lost my job, and the CEO got a $54 million bonus. Oh, and by the way, since he took over, sales are down, quality is down, wages are frozen, benefits are cut.
Before it was bought out, the company was growing and profitable. It consistently was on the "Best Places to Work in America" list. NOT ANYMORE! Latest predictions are that it will be defunct in less than a year. But the fat cats don't care. They are sitting pretty on their multi-millions while thousands of people are out of work.
I'm not anti-WalMart. I'm anti-bigbusinessfatcats who will strip the little guy of their jobs and their dignity to increase their bonuses. Wake up! The little guy on the front lines need to make a living in order to shop.

People are always complaining about how low of a wage Wal-Mart pays, but I don't get it. You don't need an education to be hired there, and how is it any different from any other retail job that pays minimum wage? It doesn't take any sort of special skills. That's why it's so important to get an education these days.

Idealy, the WalMart greeter is someone who needs some extra income and not someone who's depending on that paycheck to live on. The best fit is a senior who has a pension and/or Social Security to live on or perhaps a student who lives at home.
Also, it might be the case if they receive benefits, that's all someone might need.

They have many a wealthy person through their stock option progarm. I have a lot of friends who work at Wal-Mart Hdqs and they are comfortable with their situation. Wal-Mart greeters, stockers, etc., are paid better than minimum wage. Wal-Mart, in our area, hires a lot of retirees for part time work, which keeps them occupied and busy. I saw the interview and cringed when I saw him say that. He'll catch a lot of flack over it.

I dislike Wal-Mart but have to admire their business model. Moreover, tell people who don't like Wal-Mart practices: STOP SHOPPING THERE
