Cities such as St. Louis, Kansas City, and Des Moines.

I'm considering a move to St. Louis and I'm from the Northeast where you never hear of tornadoes passing through anywhere near here...

I have no idea what they do in those big tornado alley-cities like St. Louis in case of a tornado emergency.

is it safe???

They are very hit and miss. They do turn on the sirens pretty quick, but we do not have very many nor very powerful tornadoes here. We have a few this year. One did include a falality cause it touchdown on a weekends only department store causing the wall to collapse. The thing with STL weather is that we do not have normal weather from year to year. You cannot even say "hot in summer, cold in winter". We have had 80's in December before.

I know they scare the heck out of you when your about 9 years old and forget your housekey (and are locked out). I was raised in Spfld Ill and lived through the 1957 tornado. Not a pretty sight.

Moving to St Louis , however. You are one lucky individual! StLouis ROCKS! It has everything and it doesn't cost too much.
Wonderful people, cheap sightseeing, great shopping. Good freeway system. No wonder the town is so big. It's darned near perfect.

I live in California now, but I'd go back to St Louis in a heartbeat.

North County was too good to me.

When the sirens work, they are doing the job that they are supposed to be doing. Overall, it is safe. My uncle has lived in the Midwest for many years (over 20 I think) and he has never had a problem.

It certainly is better then nothing at all, mother nature has a mind of her own, & we give warnings the best way we can.

I rarely hear the sirens. However it is no more dangerous then anywhere else.

If you are asking if they are loud and warn you of tornadic weather, then yes they work. They work very well.
