Two properties of mathematics proves this
According to the property of opposites, any number added to it's opposite will equal 0. Since a negative number added to a negative number remains negative, any negative's number must have a positive opposite.

Also, remember, multiply any number by a negative 1 equals it's opposite. Since a negative times a negative is a positive number, all negative numbers have a positive opposite.
