I asked this question to friends & family 100 times when I was pregnant & the answer was always the same "it won't be long". Well, that didn't tell me anything. I think it's different for everyone. If you are in your 8th or 9th month I know you are wanting a specific answer, but sorry Sweetie, there just isn't one. :-)

The technical answer they'll give you in books or a childbirth class is 2-4 weeks with a first pregnancy and during labor with a second or subsequent child.
Now... I'm quickly figuring out that no pregnancy is average, and the textbook answers don't always mean something since every pregnancy and birth have been so varied (I myself have experienced this first hand and haven't even hit active labor yet).
I really wish birth was more of a science than it actually is (especially since I'm now nine months pregnant), but I still like knowing what the textbook average is. For some reason, even knowing that most pregnancies are exceptions to the rule on some counts, I still like knowing what it "generally" means.
In the physical outward sense, I dropped at 30 weeks. I didn't actually engage until 32 weeks... but he wiggled out while I was on bedrest (didn't think that was possible, but apparently it is). He's still in my pelvis, but at 36w5d he's at a -2 station now.
Good luck!

Well for starters how far along are you ? I dropped at 32 weeks with my first child and i gave birth at 37 1/2 weeks. I dropped at 34 weeks with my second and was induced at 37 weeks so I'm not sure exactly how long i would have gone. but in my experience you're not far , 3 , 4 weeks perhaps , I'm not doctor though just telling my story to you.

I wondered that same thing for about 2 weeks w/my son. I was also at 4 centimeters for over a week after I dropped too.....needless to say, I was ready before he was! It could be hours or days or weeks...but that baby will come before you know it....And in the meantime----enjoy the quiet nights and sleep while you can!! good luck!!

A couple of hours to a month... it's anyone's guess, dear... The first time the baby drops earlier, and subsequent deilveries happen sooner after you drop.

That happens in the third trimester. It is anyones guess when a baby will come. But if you are in your 9th month, it will be soon!
Congratulations!
