Try changing just the last 2 numbers of a phone number and you will probably get someone.
If you mis-dial the prefix, that prefix has less chance of being used in your area code.

It might be, but if you get the engaged tone then you don't realise you have the wrong number, you just think the right number is engaged!

Well maybe when you have made a call and it was engaged the wrong number was dialled....but bcause its engaged and no-one has answered you dont know.

Coz the telephone company dont get money from you if the number is engaged so they divert the call to one that isn't.

you only know you've dialled the wrong number when someone picks up... you could have dialled the wrong number thousands of times before but because there was no answer you didn't know you'd rung the wrong number!!!
