Just after the Civil war it was popular to call everything grand.
Grand Army of the Republic - Union Veterans Organization
Grand Old Party - Republicans, not the same goals as today's by the way.
Many newspapers have put this term on it's list of obsolete expressions, but it is still used by Republicans.

Of course it's true. Why wouldn't a political party or any group for that matter, want to adopt as a nickname "Greedy Obscene Plunderers?" Use your brain, whatever age you are! Does that make sense to you?! It is painfully obvious that it's just mud-slinging.

Ah, I see you lieberals are really having trouble dealing with reality. The reality which has lieberals losing power because they have with so much energy used their rights to abortions, and don't have enough kids to maintain their once dominant political position in the US. The balance of power is shifting to the right at the rate of 0.5% per year.
The problem is, as much as I enjoy your loss of power, a society actually needs both groups, lieberals and conservatives, as a balancing force to prevent extremes.
But, you lieberals don't have a platform other than Republicans are bad; Bush is bad; Republicans are greedy; name after name, but calling Republicans names isnt' a basis for anyone to vote for you.
While driving across the US recently, the latest lieberal plan against terrorism was announced. It was a result of polling the public, the wonderful public with its vast experience on military issues and terrorism. Sarcasm intended.
Get your heads out of your ***** and come up with some real plans, or we are going to have only one political party in this country.
