I wasn’t the kind of person who enjoyed reading at a young age. In fact, I had never actually sat down and read a book. However, sometimes my parents forced me to read a short story or a picture book which I didn’t even take seriously. Since, I didn’t enjoy reading; I always skipped pages and told my parents that I had actually read it. Therefore, I lacked of reading skills until I was ten years of age.

I didn’t used to read books or short stories because I didn’t like stories, but that it was just boring for me to sit there and read. However, I was a big fan of short stories or tales when they were told. Every night before going to be I was told stories and sometimes even jocks that made me laugh.

As I grew up, it became to the sense of me that reading is really important for me and of course for my siblings. Moreover, I started to force myself to read short stories and even picture books to improve my reading skills and to set a good example for siblings. From there on I started reading and sometimes I even read with my siblings to improve their reading skills also.

After I had the solid foundation for reading, I started to learn a new language with my mom: English. I was only around twelve years of age when I had my first English lesson. Slowly, the new language started to make sense to me and I began to apply those reading skills to the new language.

When we arrived in Canada, I was a bit familiar with the language and the first thing I did was to get books from the library. At first, I started off with short stories and then slowly went to harder and thicker books.

Now, that I am fifteen years of age I read fluently and still read books. My favorite author is RJ. Rowling, who has written the Saga’s of Darren Shan which are great books. I usually prefer to read at night or when I have nothing to do. I personally like adventure books and books that are told in first person.

I hope you don't mind if I make a few changes. Your writing is very good however. O.K., maybe I did get a little carried away. Please forgive me.

At a young age, I was not the kind of person who enjoyed reading. In fact, I had never actually sat down and read a book. However, sometimes my parents would force me to read a short story or a picture book. I really didn't take this seriously because, at the time, I didn't enjoy reading. I would always skip around the pages and then tell my parents that I had actually read the whole book. As a result, I lacked solid reading skills until I was about ten years of age.

The real reason I did not read books or short stories was not really because I didn't care for stories. It was just that sitting down to read a whole book through was so boring to me. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the times when someone would read a story to me or even tell me an adventurous tale, real or make-believe. Every night before going to bed, a family member would tell me a story or even a joke that would make me laugh.

As I became older, it began to dawn on me that reading is really important, not only for me, but my siblings as well. It was at this point that I started forcing myself to read short stories and the captions in the picture books. Not only did my reading skills improve, but I felt good about setting an example for my younger siblings. In fact, I actually began reading to my siblings and their reading skills improved remarkably.

After I gained a solid foundation in reading, I began learning a second language with my mom, English. I was around twelve years old when I had my first English lesson. Slowly, the new language started to make sense to me and I began to apply the same language skills from my native language to my new language.

When we arrived in Canada, it so happened that we started off in one of the provinces where mainly English is spoken. You see, Canada has two official languages, French and English. But French is primarily spoken in Quebec. Anyway, one of the first things I did was to get books from the library. Again, I started off with short stories and slowly progressed to more advanced books in English.

Now that I am fifteen years old, I read fluently in English, and love reading books. My favorite author is R.J. Rowling, who has written the Saga's of Darren Shan. They are indeed great books. I do enjoy reading in my spare time but prefer reading at night. My favorite kind of books are adventures and books told in the first person.

You tend to contradict yourself in paragraphs 2. You say that you didn't like to read short stories, and then you're suddenly a fan of short stories. You have to make up your mind if you didn't like them or if you did.
