All mechanical sharks made for the movie were named "bruce" I belive he is still scaring people at Universal Studios in Florida.

The shark was affectionately known as bruce, which is also the name of the great white shark in Finding Nemo btw...

Wow I might have been right! I actually looked at other answers but I swear I came up with Bruce before I looked,just remembered it was some gay name so Bruce sounds right to me. Still think of that freaking movie whenever I look at the ocean and even think of getting in.
