This is another question based on generalization. It is simply not true. Some gay designers are good, some are not any good. Some gay men don't even do design. When somebody is good at someting and becomes and famous, people pay closer attention to what they are as people. If this particular one happens to be a gay man - there you go, generalization starts.
If you allow me to rephrase your question into "Why gay men tend to be successful at fasion and design?" I'd say,
Gay men tend to be pretty successful with it because they are in touch with their feminine side.

It has mostly to do with the difference in brains. Womens are small and dense and they don't see things the same. Gay guys have the advantage of brain power from both sides. Girls always lie when asked "does this look OK" Guys only lie when a girl they like asks the question. Gay guys don't have to lie to anyone (unless they are still in the closet and lying about that). So - when the girl says "Is this OK" the gay guy says H-ell No Honey and proceeds to show you how to fix it. So are they better or are they just more honest. You decide.

I don´t agree with the question because it generalizes. Well, I´m brazilian and I don´t speak English very well, so I don´t know if I´ll make myself clear.
I mean that we can´t say that every single gay guy is better at desining etc. I´m a gay guy and I don´t know anything of these things.

Because they have sensibilities like women, yet still have a Y chromosome that makes them driven and competitive (sometimes pigheaded :P j/k) to succeed!

Because they are looking at you with a "woman's eye" My friend is gay, & he chooses the BEST, outfits for me to wear, I love to shop with him !
