ok...I know this is going to sound reallllly weird...but...what you are describing has something to do with a person's magnetic field.
The same things happens to me to the point where I have just given up using wrist watches. I usually just rely on my cell phone now to know what time it is. Some time ago I went through 6 watches in less than a year simply because they'd simply stop working. I thought it was really weird when a particularly expensive watch of mine stopped working. I took to get a new battery and it stopped working again so I gave up on it. My husband liked the watch (it was pretty masculine looking) so he decided to get it fixed again. He has been wearing it for the past two years with no problem, no more issues with batteries or anything...
Again...I know my response is a little weird...but like the response before mine...some people just can't wear wrist watches.

Battery powered? If it's analog (has hands, not number display), it may need a cleaning. Otherwise, it may have the wrong battery in it (there are high drain and low drain versions of most watch batteries . . . if you use a low drain when the watch specifies a high drain, the battery will probably die sooner).
If it's a wind-up or perpetual motion watch, it also may need a cleaning. Bring it to a watch repair facility.

probably old batteries. Put new ones in a new watch. When you're not wearing it (if you have a collection of watches you change, like jewelry) then pull the wind-up pin out to stop the movement when you're not wearing it so you don't waste batteries.

The battery is probably dead. Change the battery and see if it works.
Sometimes, the watches could have been assembled with the batteries in them quite a while before you actually purchased it. You can never know how old the battery is.

My mom was like that. I think it just means that you weren't meant to wear a watch. I don't know if there is a scientific reason or not, though.
