Wasn't it bad enough that he made his living by exploiting wildlife, with the enevitable result, without these mindless idiots! Leave wildlife alone!

Are you misguided idolisers, seriously saying that Steve Irwin tormented and provoked harmless animals just because he loved them? Tell me, what are all those things locked up in his zoo, what right had he to do that? Nothing to do with money, I'll bet!

exploiting???????WTF??????? he made a living saving wildlife ALL his life with a battling aussie farm that he and his family poored all their money into in an effort to SAVE animals, they also saved many animals from zoo's that had closed with what little money they had, then in the 90's he decided to educate people on how they can do the same, he showed people every animal from cute to dangerous because he knew if he could show people every animal they'd take interest. People want to protect what they know. His animated approach made kids listen and want to be a part of saving their environment.

as for the mutilation of stingrays, thats just sick! and the people doing that kind of thing obviously never watched a Steve Irwin program.

and you've made a total germaine greer of yourself with this pathetic attempt at trying to discredit an educator and conservationist...........and yes i would expect a thumbs down from someone with obviously no respect for conservation education>>>>>>>>>

As for your comment "locked up in his zoo" have you ever been to Australia Zoo! its the most interactive zoo on the planet and every animal that has been saved is in an environment as similar as possible to that of which they would have had in the wild. The ones in the zoo are either unable to be released or are being used to breed as they are becoming extinct!

what are you doing to save the wildlife? are you aware that what we've done to our planet along with poachers is creating a loss of 100 species a day?!?!

As I didn't know steve irwin personally I cannot say if he really did exploit the animals or not. I think the stingray must have felt threatened as they are not an aggressive creature. Unfortunately people reaction to things is so way over the top, that everything gets blown out of proportion. I feel incredibly sorry for steve's family but just the same don't know if the hype that has happened since his death is also blown out of proportion. Peter Brock died her only a few days later and the media have not had any where near the coverage on his death. I am told that the memorial for steve is going to be beamed around the world, and this also seems to be over the top. I just hope that people calm down soon and no more animals are slaughtered.

Steve gave his life protecting wildlife and educating people of all ages about a number of animals, so that we can all love, respect, protect and learn to live peacefully with and around wildlife. He deserves a lot more than your backward comments, which show that you do not have any respect for such a brave man, let alone wildlife! I wonder what contribution you've made to the protection of anything in your life? You still have a chance - Don't waste it!

I think Steve Irwin was a great man with only good intentions even if he did seem a bit heavy handed at times. As for the stingray thing thats really sad. He wouldn't have wanted that.

Steve Irwin was passionate about wildlife, and tragically he lost his life. He would be very saddened to hear about people harming Gods creatures. This is something that needs to stop right away.

ok, your a dumbass. Go get educated. Steve Irwin was a great person, more than I can say about you. He exploited nothing, and loved plenty. If someone is killing these beautiful creatures it's because they're just twisted in the head, you should be able to understand that perfectly though. Steve did catch things, he observed it and put it right back unharmed. Have you ever been caught and released? You must have dived to low and hit your head on a rock or something. Get your facts straight before you run your mouth,.

I'm pretty sure that he wasn't planning on getting killed by a stingray so everyone would go out & mutilate them. I don't think he exploited wildlife at all~he didn't hurt them but brought people's attention to them. Because of him many people took an interest to wildlife conservation. It's not his fault some people are stupid and don't think. I think he'd be pretty upset to learn these people were doing that.

Right - I agree with pillock assessment - I am sorry he died, that gave me no pleasure, as I hope I've made clear on other answers, but you are spot on, he exploited animals, provoking them to just short of the point of attack to prove what a macho okker he was.
But I'm not so sure about the Stingray thing - when you trace the reports back to source, we are talking about only 1o dead stingrays with the tails cut off, and that apparently is pretty normal, fishermen who catch them accidentally often cut off their tails to avoid being stung, or as tokens before chucking them back. So we could be seeing the birth of a media-generated urban myth.

'Pillock' indeed. I don't think you know (or care) what kind of conservationist Steve was, and what respect he had for all animals (Are you also suggsting that pets are 'exploited' animals?) He had nothing but the deepest respect for wildlife, more than you average self centred budhist middle class moron who 'ony eats fish...'
