Outlook Express is the Internet e-mail and news reader included with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 and later. It was formerly called Internet Mail and News. While it shares the Outlook name, Outlook Express doesn't have the task- and contact-management capabilities of Microsoft Outlook, nor can it handle e-mail other than Internet mail. Outlook express: free, easy to use. Market: home users. Manages emails, contacts and newsgroups.

Outlook: not free, a bit harder to use. Market: businesses. Very recommended if you want to use a corporate email server like Microsoft Exchange (emails are sent instantly between corporate users). Manages emails, contacts, calendar appointements, notes, tasks, public folders, and a bit more wierd things (like form, journal items, etc.).

For a plain usage at home, choose Outlook Express. But if you want to sync up with your Palm for example, Outlook is really great.

Outlook express is designed for home users - lack of settings, storage space of mailbox, and especially lack of security features - like good spam filter. If you have choice use Outlook only!
