I remember when punk stood for something..it was about questioning society and it's motives, about not trusting authority because it does not have your best interests in mind..it was about anti-conformity.
Flash forward to 2006. Now we have "emo" punk....as far as I can tell, emo is nothing more than a bunch of whiny-assed p u s sies crying about their spoiled relationships and how they can't go on living another day without their significant other...how lame! I remember when Blink182 came out with their first CD..I listened to the whole thing. The music wasn't bad, but lyrically, I thought it was maybe the worst piece of tripe I had ever heard.
So tell me...how can ANYTHING about emo even remotley be considerd punk?

I think it is because MTV has made Emo Punk trendy. It's basically pop music with punk rifts. There is good Emo punk out there, it's just not the mainstream stuff you hear on the radio and see once in a while on TV. Listen to the Get Up kids, great band. One of the founding fathers of Emo Punk. But I totally agree with you. What happened to punk like the Smiths, the Ramones, Rancid, Social D, NOFX, Bad Religion. It is upsetting. I think this new age stuff is complete trash.

Its all about expressing fears and hopelessness in a world that seems to be spinning out of control. This has been part of the music scene since the birth of the Blues.

Emo isn't punk and standard punk isn't punk. To me, punk is now called death metal.

"crying about spoiled relationships" its about things that cause you pain. your best friend getting killed, getting abused by a boyfriend, having hard times in your life, but i wouldn't expect someone like you to understand.
