They don't migrate as such. During the winter, they travel out on to sea ice to hunt seals (apart from the breeding females who hibernate in a snow den). In the summer (no sea ice) they live on the land, often eating berries and other vegetation.

See if you can find any web links for Churchill in Canada. A lot of polar bears wait there in early winter, because it is one of the first places that sea ice forms.

The Polar Bear is a circumpolar species migrating across the arctic in source of food. It can cross land and water because it is well insulated and a good swimmer. It exists in the Arctic and relies on pack ice to hunt. There are concerns about its long term survival given global warming.

When I was working in the arctic up Alaska (near Prudoe Bay)
I did not get to see any polar bears because they had all headed further north (up to Barrow) and out to sea. So, they DO have a partial migration. They migrate north in the summer. If they did not migrate further north it would be way too warm for them.

Polar bears don't migrate. They hibernate during half of the year instead.

They migrate from the north pole to the south pole as seasons change so that they can always be cold. That's why they are "Polar" bears because they migrate from pole to pole :)

Polar bears enjoy vacations as much as you and me. They usually drive though. They hate flying.
I hope this helps, angel.
