con- the common man gets a chance to be in on the decisions of who runs the government...

in other words, it's great that the people get to decide, except for the fact that few have the education or pay enough attention to actually be able to make a decent informed decision while voting....

Until everyone is equal to everybody else in power, we need some kind of order, in other words a government.

An autocracy is where one person says 'I'm the government'.
Gerontocracy is when the old say 'We're the government'.

Etc.

Democracy is 'We the people' decide to govern the people.

Which means people's governements are made of a lot of influences, sometimes working together (pros) and sometime working against each other (cons).

If everybody agreed, democracy would work perfectly. When everybody disagrees, democracy breaks down. Most democracies are organised in two camps (like the reps and dems in the US), some in 3 or 4 groups.

Hope this helps

Democracy moves slowly, due to debate. Democracy majority rule, thus minorities, left out. Social reform became necessay to provide for minorities{civil rights laws] Democracy produces a mature population due to their particpation in government and solving problems. With a free enterprise system included, the people are free to invest, start business and become resourcefull in creation of various enterprises.

Democracy is might makes right marjority rule.

A direct democracy is where everybody gets together and votes, and the majority gets to tell the minority what to do.

Indirect democracy is where everybody gets together and votes, and the majority picks someone to tell everybody what to do.

The problems should be obvious from the descriptions. The minority gets shut out, unless there are highers laws that the majority can't alter that limits how much the majority gets to have their way.
