NEW YORK --Ricky Williams will meet with league officials Monday seeking to overturn a drug suspension that could cost him the entire 2006 season.

League officials will not confirm drug suspensions under league policy that maintains confidentiality for positive tests. But Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, said last week that the hearing will take place at the NFL offices in New York.

If the positive test is upheld, it would be Williams' fourth violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, meaning at least a one-year suspension.

"I don't know what happened, but I know Ricky didn't test positive for anything," Steinberg said. "Someone made a mistake."

Previous positive tests were for marijuana, which Williams acknowledged using. But the latest test apparently involved a drug other than marijuana.

The Miami Herald, citing two sources of its own, confirmed the station's report that Williams has violated the policy, although neither source would say whether Williams had failed a drug test or if he had missed a required test, which also is a violation.

Ricky Williams Suspended For One Year
POSTED: 2:05 pm HST April 25, 2006

Miami, FL -- (Sports Network) - Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams lost his appeal for a fourth violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy and will be forced to sit out the 2006 season.

Williams was informed by the NFL of the decision on Tuesday.

"I'm disappointed with the decision but I respect it," Williams said. "I'm proud of my association with the National Football League and look forward to returning to the Dolphins in 2007."

Williams reportedly failed a drug test for a banned substance that is not marijuana. The first three violations for Williams came after he tested positive for marijuana. He now has to sit out at least 12 months before he can apply for reinstatement.

Williams was set to make $560,000 next season and had an option year in 2007, but because he was suspended his contract cannot expire while he is serving the layoff.

"This is a league decision, and we are disappointed in what it means for Ricky and the team," Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said. "Ricky did an outstanding job for the Dolphins, not only as a player but also what he added as a person to the teams chemistry and to our overall success."

The running back returned to the gridiron in 2005 season after retiring in July of 2004. He rushed for 743 yards on 168 carries and got into the end zone six times. Williams sat out the first four games of the season and was fined for an extra four weeks for his second and third offenses.

Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 1998 and captured the NFL rushing title in 2002 when he ran for 1,853 yards.

"I know I speak for all of his teammates and the entire Dolphin organization in supporting him in any way we can in his future endeavors," Saban added.

Where the hell have you been? You don't watch much ESPN do you? He's suspended this year (again) and broke his leg in the CFL. Miami has the option of what they want to do with him next year. Turn on the NFL network once and a while.

Yea the idiot did. Last I heard he was playing in Canada but I think he got hurt. Maybe he'll go a little farther north to find himself again and freeze to death. What a waste of talent.
