Some of the people that died in the WTC were the only source of incomes for their families. Commerce that happened in the buildings that fell stopped. Air travel stopped for quite awhile all over the country - which in turn - affected that business. Military troops were eventually deployed to go to Afghanistan and Iraq. We have things such as the Patriot Act that have been passed in congress. You could go on for days about how this afffected our country.

This is a question that has been on radio and TV for the anniversary every year. Personally, I see the impact every time I fill my gas tank. In the global sense, it has made us more cautious of neighbors. It has also made plane trips a pain, since there is much tighter security now.

It has also cost us Americans a lot of freedoms we used to have. The Patriot Act stripped away rights in the way that the man I think of as the quintessential statesman warned us of. Benjamin Franklin said, way back in the 18th century, that "the man who trades freedom for security does not deserve either".

Other changes - it is more difficult to get a job. Background checks are used to eliminate people for reasons as trivial as running a stop sign or getting a parking ticket, for jobs that will not be affected by that. In addition, most employers are now allowed to run credit checks on a potential employee, which was not allowed before 9-11.

We have lost a lot of our rights to free speech. To prove this, just go to any airport and read the warning signs on what you can get arrested for. Additionally, school students have been arrested for agreeing with the policy of foreign countries, both here and overseas.

There has been of an upsurge in religion. That is good and bad. Religiuos fervor, when taken to excess, can lead to destruction (see the Salem Witch Trials for more on that subject).

It has had an impact on us (US) and other countries, as well. Right when it happened, we had a lot of respect and sympathy in this world. At present, we have lost much of that due to our foreign policy and political leader(s).

Yesterday, I learned that people who went to help at ground zero have died, and are still dying because the air was toxic, yet the EPA told them it was safe and that they did not need to wear a gas mask. So many were unnecessarily exposed to asbestos and have lung disease. Our government has not paid one penny to help these poor people! (See Montel Williams, 09/12/06).

It has affected the way people fly: more stringent security measures; some drive and will not fly.

It has made some more patriotic; others less so.

December seventh became plenty worse. plenty extra people died, such as squaddies. Had the eastern no longer been so advantageous with themselves, they could have destroyed the oil refinery in Pearl and defeated the yank military remarkable then and there. It became a suprise attack that could have been prevented if the radar watchers have been extra careful. As for September 11th, it became notably undesirable, yet there are various conspiracys as to what relatively got here approximately. i do no longer think them because of the fact they are in straightforward terms a low fee shot for people to get extra people against Bush. It did no longer influence us in any conflict. there became no militia loss, plenty worse civilian tragedies happen worldwide huge, yet no longer too many militaristic ones that are led to by utilising a conflict in a conflict. Now if u . s . a . became already in WWII whilst Pearl Harbor got here approximately, it could be a plenty distinctive tale.
