if you and this guy have a lot of contact like getting together with friends, talk on the phone a lot, going out as friends than i dont see the harm of it as long as you two know you are strictly friends and thats the way its going to stay or you can go in on a gift together with say a few of his close friends and you can give him the gift yourself while your in the company of him and his friends and say this gift is from all of us

Sure. As for the kind of gift, if you an he are gay, then you buy an appropriate gift to reflect such ways. If not, then something more manly would be in order. Being that he's your friend, you should have some idea of his tastes. Maybe a year's issue of Playboy. Maybe something beer related. Maybe a gift card to Blockbuster videos, McDonalds, bowling, etc.
I have a good male friend and co-worker whom I buy a birthday gift every year. Being that he's older, I make a joke out of it. I buy him a can of Prunes, hinting he's an old man. It's all in good jest and he enjoys the Prunes. Not expensive, and always messing with him on this issue.

Why not-he's your best friend, show your appreciation and honor his birthday. Don't go overboard, where it makes him feel obligated or bad if he didn't get you anything for yours, but make a nice gesture. You could buy his dinner, or if out to the movies or some event, buy his meal or drinks as a gift.

Why not? If is something he would like. My son bought a good friend, Chocolate Ding Dongs for a graduation gift because it was something his friend liked. It was funny and I am sure much enjoyed. It is nice to be remembered no matter the cost.

Guys do it all the time. The only way i see something wrong with it is if you make it seem like you have a thing for him which I don't think your going for that but it is ok. People do that at their work places and for neighbors. So friends should be no problem it is almost saying "glad we are friends and your a great one"

If you are gay go for it! I think if you are straight you should probably just wish him a happy birthday and treat him to beer. Its wierd but girls have to buy each other gifts. With guys it might seem strange.

Sure. I don't think it would hurt. You can always give him money, a gift certificate or a gift card to a restaurant or any other place.

Absolutely! After all he is your BEST friend. Keep it simple. Gift card to the mall, cd store, subscription to Playboy LOL. Anything you give he will appreciate! = )
