Okay first off, most of these answers are stupid! A python will not attack while shedding. Shedding is the snakes hibernation for the first 3-4 days before shed. DO NOT place a live animal in the cage during this time. A rat no bigger then 5 inches can attack and kill a python 3 feet and under. And for the moron that said snakes cant see while they shed, Snakes dont use there eyes to hunt. IDIOTS!

The snake is smart enough to make that determination. Many times snakes wont eat because they cant see well when shedding. They use sight as well as heat to strike. That can be risky to the snake if the rodent bites the snake because he grabbed it by the back end instead of the head. Snakes can go for well over a month with out food. They are opprotunists and usually only get fed when something crosses their path. Very few snakes hunt. A week of not feeding your snake will do no harm, just make sure he has plenty of water, so he dosn't get dehydrated and also because they love to soak during this period, as it helps them to shed easier.

In the wild they will eat whenever they are hungry, shedding or not.
They will usually not eat when they shed but if they do they are hungry and it will not hurt them in anyway. I have had many snakes such as Kings, Boas, Pythons and several Corn snakes and I have always fed them on schedule shedding or not. The same way they get the skin off their bodies is the same way the crush their food, by squeezing through rocks and branches.
No problem at all! Enjoy!

Usually ball pythons do not want to eat during sheding time. Better wait as they are sometimes more agressive because they feel more vulnerable.
