Are you a Rogers Yahoo! user and you tried to download Messenger or other software? I know what the problem is.
It's that stupid 'installation' web page. The freaking MORON who wrote the page has set the system memory requirements too high for the Yahoo! software. I tried to tell tech support about the problem, and I even showed them the freaking code that should be adjusted, but they didn't listen.
Okay, I'm going to treat this as a public service message:

Even for people with 256 MBs of memory installed, the downloads wouldn't still be allowed if they have a video card built into their motherboard which takes more than 15 MBs away from system RAM.

Since tech support is too freaking stupid to pay attention to the problem, you'll have to hack an ActiveX control to make the web page think that you have more memory installed in your computer. I could provide a program, but it's dangerous to run software from people you don't know (like me), here's how to hack the file yourself:

The file you need to modify is called yupdctr.exe and it resides in your \Windows\cache folder. You will need a hex editor program to patch that file. A hex editor is a program which displays and allows you to modify the bytes which make up a computer file. Google search for one and read the manual to learn how to use it. Make a backup of yupdctr.exe by copying (not MOVE or CUT) the file to another folder first. Run your hex editor, load up the \Windows\cache\yupdctr.exe file and go to file offset 028B54. There should be a 0A byte there. To verify that you're at the right file offset, and that the yupdctr.exe file isn't some newer version, you should see E8 C1 E8 bytes before the 0A byte. If not, then your yupdctr.exe file is different and this patch won't work until I get a new yupdctr.exe file and find the proper file offset again. Change the 0A byte to 09 and save the file. You're good to go.

P.S.
For anyone who is suspicious or thinks what I did was wrong, remember that all the patch does is make the web page think that there's more memory installed. That's it, nothing else.
I didn't have to post a message to Rogers Yahoo! tech support at all, but I was trying to help both THEM and my fellow Yahoo! users.
All those idiots did was send me a pre-written document about program requirements and then they ignored my second e-mail. Obviously, those idiots didn't even bother to tell anyone outside of their department so that the web page should be fixed.

go to start/run/type in msconfig - go to start up and from there select the applications that you want to run when you start ur pc
it will stop some unnecessary programs ( like office, winamp etc) to start at the beginning and so you can start whatever you need when you use it
