I'm taking the ACT with the Writing section in a few days and I need to know if I need to take work off for the day.

Even though the test only takes 4 hours, I would still take the whole day or at least most, because you are not going to want to do much after taking that test. It doesn't sound like much, but it really tires you out.

P.S. No matter how smart you are, no one can fill in all those bubble in only 10 minutes. My sister got a perfect score in the math section and even she didn't complete that in less than 10 minutes.

The test takes (excluding breaks):

Without Optional Essay: 175 Minutes (2 hours and 55 minutes)
With Optional Essay: 205 Minutes (3 hours and 25 minutes)

By Section:
English: 45 minutes (75 questions)
Mathematics: 60 minutes (60 questions)
Reading: 35 minutes (40 questions)
Science: 35 minutes (40 questions)
OPTIONAL Essay: 30 minutes (1 essay prompt)

There are also some instructions that have to be read out and breaks are given in between sections.

As many have said, its about 4 hours. You can work that night, but you will feel kind of fried out from all those questions, especially the reading!

10 minutes if you're really smart.

Otherwise, budget out at least 3 hours.
