Is he breastfed or bottlefed?

The statistical average for weight gain in a newborn is 6 oz. a week, but there's a wide variety of normal. My son was 10 lb.s 4 oz. at birth and has been gaining 12 oz. a week, so at his 8 week checkup, he was slightly over 16 pounds.

The doctor made sure to let me know that he isn't obese (not that I was worried) and that it's impossible to overnurse a baby. The breast is designed to work with a baby's sucking reflex, so they get as much as they need and they can control the milk flow to slow it down when they're done through their latch. With a bottle, it's a little trickier. The milk comes out of the bottle nipple faster than it does from a mama's nipple and the way a bottle sits in a baby's mouth, the baby can't control the flow, so it is possible to "overfill" a baby if you're bottlefeeding. You can help by watching the angle at which you hold the bottle -- keep it lower so the baby has some control over how much he takes in.

he is healthy, eating really depends on the child, my son was nursing about every two hours round the clock and when he had to take a bottle he would take about 6oz, my son was 16lbs at 8 weeks and was 8lbs14oz at birth. I wouldnt worry about his weight, he is an infant they gain significantly then will slow down a bit. My son is 5 now he is 47" tall and weighs 49lbs, he is very tall and very lean.... and he was a big baby

This could be normal. It depends on if he is growing in length too. Ask the doctor to show you the chart. If he id drinking 4-5 oz. of formula, he should be having like 8-10 feedings. Good Luck!!!

Like adults, it depends of his bones and such. Babies are always better a little over then under so they have energy reserves if they are sick. If you want him to be heatly when older then just don't push him too much when older to finish his plate!

Follow above ideas and your family will be fine!

That is fine. As he gets older his weight gain will slow down.

Don't fuss about it.Most babies double there birth weight by 8 weeks. And the gain slows down once they start being more active. This is totally normal, unless your doctor is concerned, then you might be concerned too. But as long as he's ok with it , let him eat.

It is very normal. I do think though that if you have concerns you should ask your pediatrician. Your doctor is the only one who knows the medical history of your child. Please don't depend on this for the care of your child.
