I was 24 when i started to drive. My mother never allowed us to drive when we lived with her, because of insurance. When i got my own place no one was there to teach me so i had to hire an instructor and then i got my license. i few weeks later i bought my first car.
Now my kids will be driving when they are 16. I have been training them since they were around 8 or so to the rules of the road. they know the signs and meaning better than most adults do. i think you should be alllowed to drive when you are 16 if you maintain good grades and are responsible. My kids both know that if they lag in grades, the keys get taken and they can catch the city bus until the grades are brought back up.

I didn't start driving until my late 20's. My younger sister was driving before I did. That was kind of weird to have her taking me places. I was just very nervous and knew it was big responsibility. Now at 29 I've gotten over it and have turned into a maniac. I speed all the time and have a slight case of road rage.
God help me!
I got my first brand new Nissan Altima at about 24 years old! My friends let me drive their cars or I took the bus.

I started on the road driving class through school a few days before I turned 15.
I got my first car on my 16th birthday, a1968 Cutlass Supreme!

I was 27. Late, I know. I didn't have the confidence nor did I trust my Dad, who was trying to teach me how to drive just to make himself look like a stand up father, when I was 16. I took the city bus, taxi, or found someone to drive me around until after I got married. I'm glad that I drive now though as I have a daughter that needs to get from point A to point B, and I have a lot more freedom now.
