You need to turn them into .avi files so that you can play them back through Real Player or Media Player.
You will have to buy DVD ripping software such as ImTOO. Your PC should also be a high spec with 1Gb memory and 3Ghz processor. Without this spec the ripping will take days. You should be able to get a standard movie DVD into a 800 Mb avi file

Most DVD's can't be copied to the computer because of the copyright protection on the disc.

I do know that there are some programs out there that will let you rip the movie from the DVD, even thought it may have copyright protection.

If not, you can always download it using BitTorrent.
Download a BitTorrent client (I recommend Azuerus) and install it on your computer. Go to a site such as www.ISOhunt.com and see if you can find a .torrent file for that movie. Open up the .torrent file with Azureus (of whatever client you may be using) and if there are enough Leechers and Seeders, it should download for you. Once it's downloaded, you may need to download the DivX player to view the movie.

Keep in mind that if you use BitTorrent to download anything, it is only legal if you own the actual DVD. If you already own the movie, heck, download it. If you don't own the movie, you could get into serious trouble with the law.

If you want more info on BitTorrents, just do a google search for more info on them.

Hope you can get your movies.

You cannot backup copy protected DVDs directly onto your PC. Only special software can do this. This link is a guide to ripping DVD files to your PC, changing them to a watchable format and then writing them back to DVD (for backup purposes only of course!).

If you are thinking of creating a library on your PC then be aware that the films will each be around 700 Mb to 1.4 Gb in size so you will need a LOT of disk space.
