you could have a pentium 2 or a athlon fx-60 chip and your web pages would load at the same speed
dont waste your money on a new laptop as this wont have any bearing on your internet speed
best thing to do is invest in a new router with good network capabilities and try running a few new spyware programs such as spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/) and ewido(http://www.ewido.net/en/),as spyware is the main cause of slow page loading times, another major reason aswell is pop ups (even the ones you cant see),so if you have sp2 you should check to see if you have it turned on,and also use the yahoo toolbar(with pop up blocker)
also if you are using a wireless connection pages will take longer due to a slower connection than if you were using ethernet
good luck

Start by going to Internet frog and checking your Broadband speed. Your laptop is a bit old and the memory is probably slow too - but 20 minutes is a bit much. Also defrag your hard drive. Cehck my website too - the home page should open in a fraction of a second. More than a second - either your boradband isn't right or a serious problem with your computer. It could be where the Broadband connects - slow USB port maybe. I'll also give you a link to Aria - they have laptops on special quite often.

websites should load fairly quickly - regardless of your laptop. I'm not familiar with a p111 but the way browsing works is everything is downloaded locally and then displayed by your browser. So if it's slow but the content has been downloaded you have PC issues.

If it's slow you're internet cache could be full: goto tools: internet options: delete cookies: clear history: delete files

there are a variety of other things that can cause this as well - however before looking too much into this issue -> if you can afford a new laptop , get one simply because the speed of other applications running will be better for you.

The problem is not in the computer, but in the internet connection. This is what's referred to as a "bottle neck" because this part of the computer is slower than the rest.

For instance, you can have a super fast computer, but if you only had a dial-up modem, it would slow the internet connection way down.

Also, even if you had DSL or some other high-speed connection, the number of people trying to log on at the same time also slows down the connections.

its ok having 8mb broadband, though it is the memory and processor speed of your PC that is at fault here.

Probably would be a good idea to get a new laptop, if you can afford it of course. Laptops are a little harder to upgrade than desktop PC's. Have a look in Micromart out every other Thursday, good bargains on both new and used

good luck

I'm confused about your specs: what's the clock speed? How much RAM? 8Mbps is awfully slow for broadband unless it's wireless. If the broadband is slow a faster computer won't make much difference; if your RAM is low adding more might help.

Before you buy a new laptop you might want to put in your computers restore disk.

Often, as computers age, they collect lots of junk that slows them down. If you restored your computer it would probably run alot faster.

There is a utility called TuneUp Utilities 2006. You get a free 30 day trial. See if it helps your laptop.
I have used it for the free period and will probably buy but you decide for yourself

download speed is proportional to your Internet connection and ram.
