Not a book, here's an article that posits a link between the werewolf and Jewish culture.

Kitty and the Midnight Hour and Kitty Goes to Washington by Carrie Vaughn are great. Don't let the titles fool you. These are great urban fantasy with a great plot. Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series also covers alot of ground with lycanthropy. AND.... Kelly Armstrong has a series of books that center around the only female werewolf in existence. Bitten, Stolen, and Broken. I know that I have read more, but I read so many different genres that these are all that come quickly to mind-- Happy reading!
