newton's first. because the heavier object wants to keep moving through your hand, but obviously your hand gets in the way. it's harder to stop a heavier object. while your hand is relatively light, so it stops pretty easily.

since your hand has more mass, because it has something else in it, there is more momentum and according to the law of inertia, or newtons first law, your hand has more force going in to the wall and hits it as much harder as the oject is to your hand.

Kinetic energy (force)=mass X velocity. Lower the mass, you lower the force.
