I feel they always got along.

Excel was the first spreadsheet for the Macintosh. Microsoft invested a lot in helping to make sure there was software available at the Mac's launch.

Then, a few years back, Microsoft invested a pile of money in Apple: you don't do that to a company you hate.

Later, Microsoft encouraged Apple to go to standard hardware instead of forcing everyone to buy Apple hardware to run the Apple O/S: a very good suggestion that Apple, as usual, ignored.

There really is not much competition between Microsoft and Apple in my eyes. Apple PCs are a very bad idea due to running such a low % of the existing software base, Ipods are fine and the Zune is one of many alturnatives.

Perhaps in rabid Mac fans or some Apple execs eyes there is a war here, but I'll bet that Steve sees things more as they are. I'm sure that Bill is perfectly fine with Apple.

As for the annoying, deceptive, and insulting commercials that Apple is running to put down PC users... that hurts Apple more than it helps in my opinion. Never knock the competition is still a very valid observation as 80%+ of people will see it as unprofessional and trying to dodge the real issues.
