anti-semitic but not when you say or do something that discriminates against Arabs. Why not? Aren't they Semitic peoples too?

This is a legitimate question about language and terminology. If you look up the word semite or semitic in any reliable dictionary you will see that it includes Arabs.

I put this question in the Media and Journalism category and not in the name calling category because I was hoping to hear from people in the profession who might know something about the rules or guidelines that their publications observe.

Yes, Arabs are considered Semites too, but as of late, the word is typically only used to refer to Jews.
