No matter what you say you will probably still hurt his feelings because thats what people are like..just be nice and let him know he is a good friend to you.

suggest to him a girl who has a similar personality to yours and let the two of them dance together for a few songs, hopefully he'll end up with her the rest of the night

dance arms lenghths apart...dont let things get carried away....act like friends, let him know "how great of a friend he is" so as to not let him get his hopes up of anything happening that night.....but treat him respect beucase he is your date to the dance
