When you are little you have to be told that. It's basically to enforce a bit of self esteem into us. Obvoiusly it doesn't work because every other question on here is " I'm 5'3" and 100pounds, do you think I'm fat?" <

In the hopes of no one being belittled for asking a question that most already know the answer to.
A more proper phrase would be, "A question that you ask, but have no intents to hear or learn from the answer, is the only stupid question".
...especially here on YA.

They teach that while we are young so that someone who doesn't understand something, will not be afraid to ask. I heard adults ask dumb questions before, but its purpose is to make sure everyone has an equal opportunity in knowing something.

There are stupid questions, just as there are stupid people. It's just that our society doesn't like to admit to it

Questions are to learn. If you don't ask, you'll never know. The longer you don't know something, the dumber you feel.

It's stupid, and when you do ask a stupid question they're like "Why did you ask that??"
