When possible, always start with an anecdote (a personal story, whether it's about you or someone else, or even an "imaginary" someone). Paint a "word picture" so your audience will be drawn in by imagining themselves in that situation.

For example, if you're talking about pet peeves, you might start out with something like ...

"You're sitting in a beautiful, dimly lit restaurant. Soft music, the scent of fresh pasta wafting around you, your boyfriend sitting across from you gazing into your eyes. He leans close, opens his mouth to tell you something ... and some idiot at the next table starts chuckling loudly as he carries on a one-sided conversation into his cell phone.
My pet peeve is people who talk publicly on cell phones ..."

Something along those lines. Good luck!

Pet Peeve Speech Outline

Start with something that will draw the audience in and keep them listening since it is a speech. Like...

Don't you hate it when people who are driving talk on the phone too? What about somebody who crowds you in an elevator? Or going to the bathroom after a guy and he leaves the seat up? (Pause after each one, for dramatic effect.) Well these are all examples of pet peeves, and my speech today will be on these annoying little habits.

And go from there.

"A key aspect of a pet peeve is that it may well seem acceptable to others." Therefore a rock in your shoe does not qualify.

Need more info. But you could say something like "Has this ever happened to you?" followed by what peeves you.

"Dear stupid idiots, here are some things you morons do to get on my nerves. Please refrain from killing yourself until this speech is over."

You're welcome.
