I am having a hard time with my employer (or the manager that I am under), but there isn't much alternative work available to me right now.

But the situation is that I am a guy. I was waiting tables. I got bumped off that to let a family member get that position. So the boss insisted I get a greeters position. Now, in any case, she is insisting that I along with the other waitresses (the last guy left after I was moved out) have to wear head scarf type things over our head/hair, pinned to our hair. Um... hard to describe... think how it doesn't cover the front half of our hair, but it covers everything from behind the ears. And she tells me that I have to tuck any loose hair behind my ears (my hair isn't that long anyway). She said its to get some uniformity and I shouldn't be treated any different, even though I am a guy. Can she really do this?

What you are describing sounds like a catch, things that women wore in the forties and lunch ladies wear almost like a hairnet of sorts...I would look into your employee handbook or ask the owner if this is for health reasons, As a greeter I can't see where your hair would be an issue I think she is being unreasonable and abusing her position forcing you to wear it.....I would go over her head and tell somebody she is humiliating you by forcing you to wear what is OBVIOUSLY a woman's headpiece....I hope you get justice for that unnecessary humiliation....good luck

Unfortunately yes she can. She can require certain hair or dress of all her employees. But I think it needs to be a company policy. If it's not, it sounds like she's going to give you a hard time about it. You can ask her to see the company's policies in writing for your own benefit and see if she will get them to you. If not, you can contact headquarters and get it from them. If your company has an HR department, I might suggest that you contact them with this question and they can help you with a resolution. Good luck!

No, she became impolite, yet i do no longer think of it quaifies for harassment. because of the fact the owner, she has the remarkable to set any gown code she likes and has the authority to enforce it. by utilising fashionable, i think she needs you to placed on clothing you purchased on the save you're working at. there are various clothing shops that furnish you with an worker decrease cost so as which you're able to try this. you may make a criticism to the dept of hard paintings as stated above, yet once you are attempting this be arranged to locate yet another interest. despite if, I propose you forget approximately relating to the illiterate fool and the two gown extra on your bosses liking or replace your resume.

They own the business. You are an employee. Why should they not have the right to tell you how they want you to dress. You apparently have been raised to believe that it is the government's business to make your employer do what you want. If you want to wear your hair differently, go to work somewhere else or start your own restaurant where you can do what ever you want.

The answer is yes she can. Sucks doesn't it!

I can imagine how embarassed you must feel wearing a headpiece like that, I suspect even the girls don't like too if you ask them. I had to wear one once when I part-timed in a bakery.
