I had my cartilage on both ears pierced about 3 years ago.

1) It hurt more than getting lobe pierced, but not an insane amount that would have stopped me from getting it.
2) This was my problem. For most people, the pain lasts for about a month, but for me, the pain lasted for around 6 months and I eventually had to take the earrings out cause they hurt too much. Also, I got this weird, hard, pussy backup on the back of my ear right below one of the piercings and I had to rub it with hot water and neosporin and then a whole bunch of puss came out. It was really nasty. For me, the piercings never stopped hurting, but I think for most people, it does.
3) When I got it done, I went to Claire's and they used those disposable guns where the earring just shoots through your ear to create a hole. I would suggest though, that you get it done with a hollow needle.
4) How a hollow needle works is, they have a needle that has a tiny hole in it and they punch it through the skin on your ear basically like a cookie-cutter. This means that it is removing the skin where your earring is going. It hurts longer at first because the process is longer, but overall, it's better for your ears. If you just get a gun or a needle to punch through your ear then it rips the skin and your skin tries to repair itself - sometimes over the earring, making it more painful and sometimes your earring will get stuck into your ear (that happened to my sister). With a cookie-cutter effect, your skin wont try to heal over the earring.
5) I would start with a stud. Hoops are just going to contribute to the pain - especially when you're sleeping. If you sleep on the side of your head, the hoop creates a lot more pressure than the stud. Plus, if you have long hair, its easier for hair to get stuck in the hoop and then when you pull at it, it hurts.
6) You can totally swim with the earrings!

Hope that helped! Don't let my horror story scare you off - I was just letting you know my experience. Everybody else I know who's gotten cartilage pierced has kept it on and hasn't needed to remove the piercing.

1)it doesnt hurt at all! less then getting a shot at the doctors
2)it will hurt after for 1-2 weeks
3) a needle or a gun
4)they use a hollow needle but dont get scared about it
5) well a stud is much skinny then a hoop so if you get a stud you prolly wont be able to get a hoop cuz the hole in your ear will be smaller
6) yes but not with in the 3 mounths of it healing

I had a cartilage peircing once, but I took it out. It doesn't hurt all that much. It was like getting an ant bite. If done properly, the pain should only last a few minutes. They peirce it like they peirce your ear ... with a peircing gun. I started with a stud and I don't know if you can swim with it ... I never tried it. I eventually took it off because it interfered with work ( I had to use headphones for work). Goodluck!!!

1. It stings pretty bad right for 1 seccond then it goes away immediatly, it did ache for me when i layed on it though, like a throbbing pain.
2. if there is no infection 1-2 days
3. mine used a peircing gun
4. some do it that way because some say a hollow needle will shatter the cartilage
5. They will only peirce with a stud
6. as far as i know this is fine

1. Depends on the person
2. Depends on the person
3. Use gloves, clean area, mark area, and poke
4. Hollow needles hurt less and create the HOLE for the metal
5. They will usually start you with a hoop unless you pay for something special.
6. NO SWIMMING until it is healed.

i'm glad you asked..
i got mine done & i thought it was going to be this LONG painful procedure lol.

but when i got it done. the woman used a regular piercing gun & it hurts less than getting the lower part of your ear done!!

& usually after 3 or 4 days change it to a hoop. its MUCH more comfortable [=

& YES u can swim in it! Jus make sure and clean it twice a day.

but beware that it takes usually SIX MONTHS to heal up! (quite a bit ain it?)

hope this helps!

4. duno.

5. A stud, its less heavy, and less likely to get cought on something while its still healing

6. probably, but they will be able to tell you at the place you are gonna get it pierced
