My sister restored her computer back to factory condition by mistake and all the files were lost. We had hundreds of pics on it so I was wondering if there was a way to get them back b/c we only made backup discs for 1/2 of them, any help would be great, thanks!

This has happen to us twice.............at least you have memory of those pics...............but will never have those photos again... .......sorry

1st time computer crashed ...2nd time computer did something strange....... I did a system restore and it erased EVERYTHING...I trryed to stop it but it erased it all. It did not even give me a date to system restore to. It only asked me if I was sure I wanted to do a system restore.......when I said yes ......it shut off and it was all gone.

After happening to us the first time, we backed up photos on a rewritable disk. .........So we would loose any more. Second time we moved several times over a year and a half and did not have time to back up pics........ losts those pics too. Back up photos once a month or sooner for sure to keep them safe

Wow...you may have lost everything. Nearly always, the factory restore feature on most well-known computers like Dell and Gateway rewrites the tables on the hard disk which all but eliminates access to previous data and files. The data may still be there, but you have no conventional or easy way to recover it. There are some commercial data recovery services available, but as other folks have mentioned this can get quite expensive and you will not get all of you files back anyway. Just using that computer now is effectively writing over the previous data since the computer thinks that space on the hard drive is now available...this is why during the restore process there are several warnings to make sure that users understand that all data will be lost.

Your data may be gone for good...I know this is painful to hear, but if it was that important then you should made a backup.

Good luck.

It is often possible to recover deleted photo video musics and other files, and folders from a Windows PC, it all depends on things that has happened after the files were deleted. When a file is deleted, the data of the file is not erased fro computer hard drive. The computer system only deletes the index entry that tells the file system where the data for the file is located. The storage of deleted file is also now marked as free space so it is can be used for any new files to be written.

If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover deleted files and folders. So it is very important to NOT save any new files to the drive where deleted files were located.

One of the easiest ways to see if your deleted files are recoverable, is to try some good file recovery software. One I always use is asoftech data recovery, which you can download for free from site below

The computer data recovery software supports Windows 7/8/8.1/Vista/XP computer.

Data recovery is very expensive. There is a few programs out there that can do data recover even after a hard drive has been formatted. You just gotta look for them. The thing is that since the computer was restored, it would make it even harder to find those files, since when you restore it, you are restoring the computer with files of if not the same, similar file names.

Restoring to facotry condition means wiping everything out and loading fresh. You may, repeat may be able to recover some of the pictures with undelete software (do a web search, there are some for free) but, if parts of the pictures were overwritten, odds are you are out of luck.

Yes its called Data Recovery

Just because you delete something it doesnt mean that it is totally gone. The hard-drive has to overwrite the space that was used to store the data (pictures) in the first place.

There are companies that can do this for you.
