I have heard that a daddy long legs is more venomous then a Black Widow. Their long legs allow them to move in for the kill and dodge the widows bite. I have seen daddy long legs with egg sacks so i assume they are male and female. I am not sure of the scientific name for the daddy long leg, so perhaps it nickname is a play on the opposite of Black Widow since they are the victor

The Daddy long-legs spider, also called the Daddy long-legger, Granddaddy long-legs spider, cellar spider, vibrating spider, or house spider, is a true spider and not a harvestman. "Daddy longlegs" is a name that is used for several unrelated arthropods with extremely long and thin legs, including these spiders, the harvestmen and tipulid crane flies. The Daddy long-legs spiders comprise the Pholcidae family, in the suborder Araneomorphae.

Daddy-longlegs are not spiders. They have only one body segment, 2 eyes, and no fangs or venom. They are not poisonous and cannot bite. They eat decomposing vegetable and animal matter. There are males and females.

Because that's what someone named them. And, also, if there were were no females, they wouldn't exist.
