My math teacher changed with the boys in the locker room. He completely stripped, with his boxers on. He had to change because he was a coach, so he changed with us. Is that normal and is this ok? Most of the boys made fun of how hairy he was and how thick his happy trail was.

From what you have told us, I don't see anything so terribly inappropriate from what he did. Still, as someone pointed out, you would think he would have changed in the office. Sometimes coaches who are not the regular phy. ed. teachers might not feel at ease using another teacher's office, so maybe that's the case there. It could be too that he is inexperienced at coaching (is he young?) and hasn't quite gotten into the swing of his new extra job at the school.

If you would have told us that he was taking showers with you, THEN I would become concerned -- although I have heard that happening some time too. This sounds to me like a case where the guy just isn't into his coaching job yet. Usually, it's perfectly normal for a coach to walk through a locker room, just to make sure no one is acting up or endangering someone, for example. It might be a case where another, more experienced coach is going to have to talk to him and correct him. It almost sounds like the guy was in a really big hurry and just decided to dress right then and there. It struck me as rather odd that he stripped only to his boxers as I can even remember my phy.ed. teachers wearing jock straps when they were teaching sports where there was some contact -- like basketball.

Still, a locker room, even one in a middle school or more likely a high school is not just a place for those exactly your age. Older students might have to come in and change too -- maybe to go and use the weight machine, etc. preparing for another sport. These guys will be more developed (physically) than you guys. Hairiness is just part of being a man. And some guys are just hairier than others.

So, no, I really see nothing too wrong in his behavior, as far as taking into consideration the circumstances you have told us about. It's not something I would do, quite frankly, but maybe he had no choice in the matter.

One thing: Don't make fun of your coach, at least in front of him. Give him respect. A lot of men who are overly hairy are embarrassed about this at times.

Additional comment after learning the teacher had been a coach for a long time: He should know that it is not a good idea to be dressing in front of the boys. (The boys need privacy too.) Most coaches do not do things like that. They dress in the gym office. Still , see if this had been a one-time incident.

Changing pants and shirt while leaving your shorts or briefs or boxers on is no big deal--you see that on network TV. Now if you boys were going completely buff to put on your sports gear, including supporters, then it would probably not be looked on favorably by some of the parents. Even back 30 years ago when I was in high school, the coach never changed in the locker room with the boys. And that was way before all of the big issues came up with men-boy inappropriateness.

I used to work with kids at the YMCA and when we took the kids to the locker rooms to change the adults changed behind the curtain. I think it's just a really good idea for an adult not to put themselves in a position to be accused of anything bad. If your teacher didn't totally strip down and didn't do anything awkward or look at any of the kids then technically he didn't do anything wrong. But if you felt weird about it at all then the other boys probably did to, and he should go ahead and change somewhere else. Try taking to another coach you trust or a parent... maybe they can have a kind word with him and ask him to change elsewhere or after you kids do.

1. He could not be "completely stripped" if he still had his boxers on
2. Normal? Not for any grown man that I know
3. Okay? Probably not - he made all the little kids jealous and self conscious!

if he is a teacher/coach he has to change somewhere to his gym clothes and it's possible that there is no other place for him to change.
I think you are over reacting.
Why are you looking at his " happy trail " ?

It can be looked at suspiciously if you have other reasons to think the teacher has a sexual interest in his students.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

In my school, it would not be allowed. Whether he means anything by it or not, I don't know, but he is opening himself up for problems if someone complains.

It doesn't sound terribly inappropriate from what you say, but I think he should have gone in his office or something instead.
