When a teller is out of balance in her cash, it can mean her losing her job. Please return the excess money. She probably knows exactly who got the extra money as she has to balance her drawer every evening and the amount she's out is ususally a big clue. Do the right thing. Please.

If your conscience is bothering you, you should bring it back.
The teller will notice that his/her drawer is off at the end of their shift, but it is extremely unlikely that they will know to whom they gave extra cash.
The only way they will catch it is if the check is cashed and a number different than the amount of the check is printed on it.
If the teller merely incorrectly counted the cash he/she gave you they will never figure it out.
Personally, since it's only a little bit of extra cash, go give it back or call them and tell them to take it out of your account. The extra cash won't make you rich or change your life, but doing the right thing will make you feel good.

I returned $50 to a grocery cashier even though I got a ticket on the way back to the store that cost me about $50. I don't think you are under any legal obligation though, but I'm no lawyer either and it may vary by jurisdiction.

Keep in mind that the poor Teller will be held responsible for the money. It is not the bank who loses.

do the right thing - if you found out after leaving the bank they didnt give you the right amount you wouldnt like it and it would take alot of time and effort to figure the problem out.

if you do not, then the teller has to make up the difference out of his own pocket.
