The very best is to get yourself some gravity boots ... hang from your ankles from a chin-up bar and do inverted sit-ups. Regular sit-ups ... (with weights if you have them) and leg raises also are good. If you work hard you'll see results right away.

Many studies show that 'beer bellies' may have nothing to do with beer at all. In fact, the fat content in beer is almost non-existent, and wine on the other hand, may induce more weight gain than beer (because of the sugar content)
ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_belly
Therefore, the forming of a beer gut is probably more because of lifestyle in general instead of just drinking beer. From people I know, those who drink beer both in pubs or at home usually do not actively engage in exercises. Homer Simpson is a good example - sofa, beer, tv.
Now back to how pot bellies can be reduced, the secret is a healthy lifestyle. Diet is important. Try avoiding too much carbohydrates, protein and fat (but not to cut them off because you need energy for daily work) Introduce a high fibre diet is good for almost everything if don't have problems with your digestive system. As such, your body should stop accumulating (too much) fat.
And then exercises. Sit-ups are free and great. Going to a gym regularly can also be efficient but a bit more expensive. Swimming is also not a bad choice.
How long it takes to see results completely depends on how much work you do. However, even if you are desperate to get in shape, do not overdo physical exercises. Be patient and hopefully you can start feeling healthy in weeks.

Calories in minus calories out divided by 3500 = pounds gained or lost per week.
So if you burn 7000 extra calories than you consume, you will lose 2lbs in that week.
It makes no difference what you do to gain or lose those calories. There are no 'good' or 'bad' calories for weight loss.
Make small changes to your lifestyle. These can make a remarkable difference in the long term. For example, if you park your car on the far side of the lot and walk across into the office for an additional 60 seconds each way per day, over a year you will walk for an additional 10 HOURS. That's at least 5000 calories, or 1.5lbs, over the course of a year for doing nothing but walk two mins extra per day.
Now add the water torture. (It will only be torture for the first couple of weeks!) Most of us are badly dehydrated, so this is not a bad idea even if you aren't trying to lose weight.
The torture part is, every time you remember (set a desktop alarm for every 15 mins at first, until it becomes routine), walk to the water cooler, pour and drink one cup down and take a second cup back to your desk.
Pretty soon, you'll be peeing like it's a tax break!
What does all this do?
1) It hydrates you properly.
2) You are walking MUCH more. You walk (let's say) 60 seconds round trip to the cooler an average of three times per hour, and (let's say) 120 seconds to the toilet an average of 1.5 times per hour, 7 hours per day.
Does this sound worthwhile? Over the course of a 300-day working year, you will burn THIRTY (yes, 30) pounds during a year!
That's eating exactly what you are eating (or beer drinking) now. Good luck finding the smaller pants of your dreams.

Diabetes cannot be cured. Once you have it you have it for life. Type 1 diabetics do not produce any insulin, and no amount of diet/exercise will change that. Some Type 2 diabetics can still produce sufficient insulin. A low carb diet and regular exercise could help some Type 2s to use their body's insulin more efficiently. So, some types of diabetes can be managed with a low carb diet and regular exercise - but it doesn't mean that the diabetes has gone away. It just means that it is under control. An analogy would be someone with myopia; when they have their spectacles on, they can see fine. But it doesn't mean their myopia has gone away.

Walking and lots of it. Runnings no good thats cardio, will help your heart rate and will burn food faster, but the increase in fat consumption is negligable. Sit-ups will give you loads of muscles underneath a beer-belly so they're useless to you at first too. Oh and easy on the beer, try proper drinks like Scotch, Vodka etc. When I say lots of walking I mean about 4 miles a day rising steadily as your legs get stronger. That should be on a brisk stroll, not around the house.
