Depends on the seventeen year old! as people mature at differant rates and some adults still act like children and a lot depends on what life experiences they have had to deal with! so u have to look at each 17 year old as an indvidal and decide!

I don't think your equation is quite correct, 17 is a 'young adult.'

As to the 'developed brain' an earlier answer'er gave, Looking at the antics and basic behaviour of some 20 - 30 year olds, there really isn't a lot of difference between them and the 17 year old. So there are arguments that swing in both directions over this.

It's really only fair to judge each one on its merit.

The brain is not fully psychologically developed until around the age of 25. Thus seventeen is definatly a child still and in most cases unable to make wise decissions that would require thought and experience.

Hi,I dont agree, maybe im an odd one out but at 17 i had a very good job,own home with bills, wife, child and all the trimmings all with the blessing of the 2 relivent families. Why? Because i was considered responsible enough and more importantly adult enough to deal with all these things at that age....Certainly not the actions of a child...

It's a legal question. In some places, states or countries, 17 is as much an adult with all rights, privileges and responsibilities as a person who is 21 somewhere else.

It depends. Lots of states declare 17 old enough to go to jail. Other times a 16 year old with a child, while stupid, legally makes you an adult for many things.

wrong (in my opinion anyway). 17yrs old equals a person, and therefore means they should be treated as an individual. i know some very mature 17yr olds, and some extremely immature 25 yr olds.

it depends on the individual as to how much guidance, restrictions, freedom, independance etc etc they need. Not on how long they have been alive. age is not everything, in fact, it often means a lot less than we think.

They are not legally adults. But biologically, I hate lines in the sand, because they are contrived as a convenience to suit societies and the laws convenience. In reality, particularly between the sexes, people develop at different rates.

17 does not equal child but it does not equal adult either. I would place 17 year olds into teenagers right where they belong. And if you are 17 enjoy it!! Once you become an "adult" then everything changes. (not always for the worse or better)

Honestly to me age is just a number.... To me your maturity level says a lot about you as a person.. I am 20 but have a maturity level of a much older person because of what i have experienced in my life, and i know some ppl who are older but act childish.. So to answer you question if you act like a child then yes.
